Apple has won a patent dispute against Motorola Mobility regarding a "slide-to-unlock" feature on smartphones.

The judgement marks Apple's first patent victory over Motorola in any part of the world.

Patent consultant Florian Mueller said the ruling could affect patent disputes involving Android device makers worldwide.

Big judgement, and it must surely be a blow for Google who is buying Motorola.

OMG. Are they for real? A patent for that? Utterly ludicrous. They may as well ban everyone from ever making a smartphone. Maybe that's why google did face unlock?

IMO the US patent system is completely out of control, some of the patents that are going through are ludicrous.

Why is Apple suing everyone these days?

Jobs is gone and they need to protect what they have as they may never have a better product.

So if they can use patents to force compeition out of the areas they are in, the choice of the consumer is reduced which increases the chance they will buy the apple device.

Competitors should stop looking at what Apple is doing and think for themselves and come up with original ideas and innovative products
