THE ANC has strongly hinted that it wants to change South Africa's constitution to enable faster social and economic transformation. A Strategy and Tactics discussion document prepared for the party's national policy conference in June say s "elements" of the constitution have to be reviewed as they may be slowing down South Africa 's "second transition".

"Constitutions are living documents and reflect the stage of development of a given society. There may therefore well be elements of our constitution that require review because they may be an impediment to social and economic transformation, such as for example the narrow mandate of the Reserve Bank or the relationship between and powers of different spheres of government," the discussion document says.

I would hate to see a change in the constitution. It will be a crack in the dam wall, and after the first changes were made it is very easy to just change whatever you feel like...

Like Zille said recently : they're just doing this to make it easier for them to steal and enrich themselves.

Also fully agree Rpm.

100% agreed. The first change will be hardest to push through. But it will become easier thereafter until it becomes a communist state along the lines of North Korea or something equally horrific.

Makes me really nervous when they start tinkering with the constitution.

Heard on etv today they are talking about a second wave of democrasy - seems like a veiled way of saying they want to find a way to push finances out of the hands of whites and put it into the ANC and the other black power brokers' coffers.

It's not about enriching all black people in SA but about enriching themselves.

The ANC designed the original constitution so that it would look good in international eyes but now that they are in power and are basically running this country into the ground, they have decided to change the constitution into something where they have all the power to do what they like for themselves.

Why do they want to change the constitution? The original was awesome. I think the thing is that South Africa wants to be like other country's.

It would help if the spirit of the constitution were being adhered to. Right now the constitution is looking like a piece of paper.

No South Africa wants to be better then other countries by pretending to have the most progressive constitution around but then they go and change it willy nilly to suit the ruling party and not the citizens. They like people who move into your house into the room you are renting and for the first few months they are wonderful and sweet then the problems start and then you cannot get them out because of red tape and that's what the ANC have done to this country.
