You’ll soon be able to pay your car licence with your card

Cape Town will be rolling out the use of card payment facilities at its motor vehicle registration offices.

Already available at the Civic Centre, the use of card payment facilities will be expanded to motor vehicle registration facilities across Cape Town.

The city-wide roll out to motor vehicle registration offices is expected to take approximately two months.

Payments of up to R5000 per transaction by credit or debit card will be accepted, and for any payment over that the City will reclaim the relevant banking fee.

This covers most transactions for motor vehicle licences, rates, services bills or other sundry payments.

As electronic payments carry the lowest bank charges, more than 60% of payments to the City are via this method.

“The success of our online offerings, such as receiving municipal accounts by e-mail and the option of registering for the City’s e-services portal, allows for online payments of rates, tariffs and motor vehicle licence payments for clients,” said deputy mayor Ian Neilson.
