Beware this Eskom banking scam
Eskom has warned of a scam involving criminals who pretend to be representatives of the company claiming that its banking details have changed.
The fraudsters claim that Eskom has changed its banking account to Nedbank and then provides new details.
“The fraudsters use letters, faxes and emails bearing the Eskom logo and the forged signature of Eskom’s Group chief executive, Brian Molefe. “They have also forged Nedbank banking details,” the power utility said in a statement.
“Eskom customers are asked to take note that Eskom does not have a banking account with Nedbank and that Eskom would never send notifications to its customers in this manner.”
Eskom said banking details appear on each customer’s electricity bill and, wary customers should contact the group’s customer call centre for verification.
