Here’s what R100 buys you around the world right now
The latest Big Mac Index shows that South Africa’s currency remains one of the most undervalued in the world, greatly influencing how far your rands will go when travelling abroad.
Data collected by BusinessTech in 2016 found that it was more or less possible to buy yourself a simple meal at the airport on arrival with the spare change in your pocket.
And while thanks to rising inflation amid a turbulent economic and political year locally, your R100 is worth less than it was a year ago, overseas, the locally currency is worth a few cents more against the major currencies.
At current prices (20 Jan 2017) this is what R100 can get you:
- UK: £6.00
- USA: $7.37
- Australia: AU$9.74
- Germany: €6.93
- Brazil: R$ 23.57
- China: 50.67 Yuan
- Dubai: 27.06 dirham
- Canada: C$9.85
- Thailand: 261.10 Baht
