Altron appoints Powertech CEO

Allied Electronics Corporation (Altron), has announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer and chief operating officer at Power Technologies.

It advised that with effect from 1 July 2012, Mr Neil Kayton, the erstwhile CFO of Power Technologies will be appointed as the new CEO of Powertech to replace Neil Claussen who has resigned from the Altron group with effect from 30 June 2012.

Claussen, who is a qualified chartered accountant by profession, joined Powertech on 1 February 2004 where, in addition to serving on multiple boards within the Powertech Group, is also a member of the Powertech executive and remuneration committees.

Altech also advised that with effect from 1 July 2012, Leon Viljoen, the current CEO of Powertech Transformers will be appointed as the new COO of the Powertech Group.

Viljoen, who holds a B Eng (Electrical and Electronic) and a MBA (Henley Management College), has been involved with Powertech for over two decades in various management capacities and has largely been responsible for developing and growing the Transformers Division into the market leader in South Africa which it is today, Altron said.

“The Altron board believes that Neil and Leon have excellent attributes that will complement each other in leading the Powertech group. They have both been with the group for some time and understand the intricacies of the power electronics sector.  We look forward to seeing them take the group to new heights,” said Robert Venter, Chief Executive of the Altron group.
