The best restaurants in South Africa in 2023

 ·3 Jun 2023

Salsify at the Roundhouse in Camps Bay, Cape Town has been ranked as best restaurant in South Africa, winning the title at the fifth annual Luxe Restaurant Awards.

The awards, which honour the South African restaurant industry’s best contributors, had numerous categories, with the panel of judges led by Chad Fourie, Managing Director of The Hospitality Counsel.

“Over the past nine months, the Luxe Restaurant Award judges have been seeking out exemplary dining experiences in South Africa. Tonight, we have given these leading restaurants and chefs a platform to shine and celebrate their culinary genius,” said Fourie.

Salsify at the Roundhouse was named the Restaurant of the Year at the awards, adding to the three stars it got from Eat Out – the highest score possible.

Earlier in the year, writing on Bizcommunity, Ryan Cole, head chef at Salsify at the Roundhouse, said that people are eager to go out and value experiences more than ever following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cole added that restaurants will invest more time, money and energy into creating exceptional culinary experiences.

The restaurant’s Chef’s menu currently costs R1,650 per person (excluding wine).

In addition, the LivingRoom at Summerhill Guest Estate’s Johannes Richer won Chef of the Year at the Luxe Awards.

Richer’s restaurant was named the Restaurant of the Year at the Eat Out Awards, also receiving a three-star rating.
