Airports Company SA appoints new CIO
Airports Company South Africa has appointed Sello Mmakau as its new chief information officer (CIO).
The CIO position is a newly created role for Airports Company South Africa following the company’s leadership realignment earlier this year, the group said in a statement on Wednesday (29 October).
Airports Company South Africa’s chief executive officer Bongani Maseko said: “Mmakau’s new role is an important one, which will ensure that the information technology strategy is ideally aligned to sustainably support the growing organisation.”
“His position plugs into Airports Company South Africa’s plans to conclude the filling of positions at executive level during the current financial year.”
Mmakau was previously CIO at the Department of Home Affairs. During his six year tenure, he was involved in collaborating with the banking industry to develop automated online fingerprint verification and implemented the new South African Smart ID card.
Mmakau has a BA degree, a Master of Business Leadership degree and several IT-related qualifications.
Prior to his position at Home Affairs, he worked at the Department of Health, the State Information Technology Agency and at Sasol Ltd.
