Good news for GWM and Haval drivers in South Africa

 ·25 Jan 2025

Drivers of GWM and Haval vehicles in South Africa have something to celebrate: the introduction of a new 7-year/200,000km warranty for almost all models in the range.

This significant enhancement places these vehicles among those with the longest warranties in the country, a move that underscores GWM’s commitment to delivering value and peace of mind to its customers.

This upgraded warranty is a major leap from the brand’s previous standard of 5 years/100,000km.

Not only has the mileage coverage doubled, but it also comes at no extra cost to buyers. While not every model is impacted—notably the Steed, a workhorse bakkie aimed at commercial users—the change applies to the brand’s most popular vehicles.

The GWM P-Series, Haval H6, and Haval Jolion City are the main beneficiaries, with the Jolion Pro already enjoying this extended warranty.

For customers of these best-selling models, this translates to greater long-term security and increased resale value, as the warranty is transferable to subsequent owners.

Interestingly, this change aligns with GWM’s broader strategy of staying competitive in a rapidly growing market for Chinese vehicles in South Africa.

Brands like Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, Jetour, and GAC have aggressively marketed themselves with robust warranty offerings.

For example, Chery and its offshoots provide a 10-year/1-million-kilometre engine warranty, while GAC offers a lifetime engine warranty.

However, these warranties are limited to the first owner, leaving second-hand buyers with reduced coverage.

GWM’s approach to making its warranty transferable adds an extra layer of appeal for used car buyers.

In addition to the 7-year/200,000km warranty, GWM and Haval have also introduced an 8-year/150,000km powertrain warranty for their hybrid and electric models.

These vehicles further benefit from a 7-year/75,000km service plan, enhancing their overall value proposition. Previously, models like the Haval H6 launched with a more modest 5-year/60,000km plan, so this marks a notable improvement.

GWM’s efforts to elevate its warranty and service offerings come at a time when Chinese carmakers are experiencing a surge in popularity in South Africa.

The affordability, modern designs, and feature-packed vehicles from brands like GWM and Haval have resonated strongly with local consumers.

This demand is evident in the growing market share of Chinese cars, as buyers increasingly recognise the value and reliability they provide.

Enhancing the warranty for these models ensures that a substantial number of South African drivers will benefit directly.

Moreover, the growing trust in GWM and Haval is reflective of the broader shift in consumer attitudes toward Chinese vehicles.

Once regarded with scepticism, these cars have now firmly established themselves as reliable and desirable options.
