Korean bitcoin exchange hacked
One of the largest bitcoin exchanges has been hacked in South Korea, with the personal data of up to 30,000 customers compromised.
According to a report from Yonhap News, the state-run Korea Internet & Security Agency received a call from Bithumb on Friday that its data on customers had been leaked.
It reported that Bithumb had noted that one of its employees’ home personal computers had been hacked.
Bithumb enables its members to buy and sell the virtual currencies Bitcoin and Ethereum, and is believed to be among the five largest exchanges in the world.
Some customers claimed they suffered financial damage, with reports from BraveNewCoin claiming losses in the “billions”. One billion won is about $870,000.
