This functionality was previously only available through the banks’s app for tablets, the bank said.

The following accounts can now be opened via the mobile app:
- New Cheque Accounts
- New Cheque Accounts with Overdraft
- New Overdrafts and Overdraft Limit Increases
- Cheque Account Upgrades
- New Credit Card
- Linked Petro Card
- Investments – Demand Deposits
- Investments – Notice Deposits
- Investments – Share Investing
The update also adds some other new functionality to the app, as well as giving the visual interface a makeover with a new look and feel.
FNB has launched SWIFT Payments on the FNB Banking App, allowing customers to receive payments from abroad from their smartphones and app users will now be able to get pre-approved loans, accounts and investments offered to them as soon as they login, without having to search for them.
“With this new feature we can ensure that customers using our App only receive personalised and relevant product offers,” said Giuseppe Virgillito, head of Banking App, FNB Mobile and Connect.
A new eBucks menu also lets customers check balances, reward levels and more, the bank said.
Over the last year, the FNB Banking App has added a number of new features, such as the ability to purchase iTunes codes for customers or as gifts.
Share Investing and Stock broking was introduced in October last year, allowing users to trade shares, equities and view other instruments in real time.
FNB launched its banking app in July 2011, and was first to market with the banking channel.
All of South Africa’s consumer banks have since launched mobile app offerings: Nedbank and Standard Bank in 2012, Absa in 2013, and Capitec most recently in June 2014.
The RMB Private Banking Smartphone App has also been upgraded to a new look and feel, the group noted.
