A look at Johannesburg’s cool new subscription-based shared office space

On Monday, Grapnel Property Group opened the doors of their first Perch Co-Working Space in South Africa.

Located on 37 Bath Avenue, just outside the Rosebank Mall, the office is within walking distance of both Jan Smuts Avenue and Oxford Road.

“We are very excited about this new business and cannot wait for Johannesburg and the rest of the country to engage and experience it,” said Justin Bass of Perch Rosebank.

“Perch Rosebank will be the ultimate work space not only for those looking for a dynamic working environment, but also for those looking to meet people to collaborate with in existing and new work.”

What is co-working?

Perch explained that co-working spaces allow people to become nomadic workers and have a non-committal relationship with their work spaces.

People are welcome to “pop-in” and collaborate with fellow professionals.

“Over the last couple of years, co-working has grown to attract the attention of established businesses and corporates, to the point that in the USA alone, about 50% of co-working space members are employed professionals,” said Perch.

“A lot of this growth has been in response to the need for entrepreneurship within organisations, thanks to startups setting a new tone of business worldwide.”

Pricing and services

Perch Rosebank is accessible to a membership community who subscribe on a monthly basis, and it is also open to walk-ins through day passes and week passes.

The membership costs R3,200 per month, while day and weekly passes are R250 and R1,000 respectively.

The premises are open five days a week, from 8:00am to 5:00pm and include high speed Wi-Fi, office services like printing, locker facilities and ample parking space.

Users of Perch Rosebank will have access to hideaway private work spaces, state of the art meeting rooms with video conferencing facilities.

The company also said that it plans to add biometric access, which will allow for members to use the premises for up to 24 hours a day, including weekends.

There is also a coffee shop on the premises, serving beverages and light meals.
