Links to the big Cyber Monday deals happening in South Africa today
With Black Friday having come and gone, many shoppers in South Africa may be suffering from sale fatigue – but there may also be those who feel like they missed out on some big deals.
Luckily, just like Black Friday has caught on and stuck in South Africa, the Cyber Monday tradition is also still going strong.
Cyber Monday is a marketing term for the Monday following the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. The term was created to persuade people to shop online, post-Black Friday.
According to payment gateway PayFast, mobile payments led Black Friday sales, with 70% of total transactions driving sales, versus 30% on desktop.
The average basket size was R1,255, slightly higher than 2021, which recorded an average of R1,208 per basket. Electronics, appliances, beauty and fashion drove the bulk of sales over the bonanza discount weekend.
E-commerce activity spiked on Black Friday itself – transactions peaked between 09h00 to 10h00, with many shoppers already making purchases just after midnight, the group said
Overall, the number of transactions PayFast processed increased by 20% compared to the previous year.
Given that most specials run the whole weekend of Black Friday, it’s not uncommon for many retailers to extend their sales for an extra day – or even more.
