Top companies in South Africa offering big bursaries for 2025 – including Standard Bank, Amazon and more

Applications for the 2025 academic year are open, with several major companies offering bursaries to new students.
Education is an incredibly important investment, but the harsh reality is that few South Africans can afford it, especially tertiary education.
Thus, several universities and third parties offer bursaries as financial awards to support a student’s academic pursuits, specifically those that show potential.
The selection criteria for bursaries often vary and are often based on factors such as financial need and academic performance.
Some companies also award bursaries that sometimes require students to “work back” the bursary by working at the company after graduation. This can be a win-win, as employers get the skills they need while students get a guaranteed job.
Notably, several companies, especially financial institutions, are offering bursaries for areas where the country lacks skills, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Those who cannot afford the fees to attend tertiary institutions and do not receive a bursary can still use the government-funded National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) programme. Students who qualify for South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants automatically qualify for NSFAS funding.
Although South Africa’s biggest companies offer funding to students, the following list of bursaries only scratches the surface of what is available, and prospective students can visit Bursaries SA for a complete list of what is available for the upcoming academic year.
