‘Tipping point’ for Sasol petrol stations

Sasol is rolling out a new way to tip petrol attendants at its fuel stations.

Sasol said that Tipped, a digital tipping system, will make it easier and more convenient for customers to tip petrol attendants straight from their smartphones.

Tipped is a digital tipping and payment system that uses a QR code and a digital wallet.

Customers scan a QR code their attendant presents to pay a tip straight to their digital wallet.

The system runs on the Masterpass payment rail, which supports mobile banking apps from major banks and digital wallets such as SnapScan, Zapper, Spot, Telkom Pay, and VodaPay.

The forecourt staff will join Tipped through a simple onboarding process that requires only proof of identification.

Once the attendants have the app, they can transact, transfer money to their accounts and use cashback rewards at affiliated stores.

“Receiving digital tips helps safeguard attendants from cash crime risks and gives them control over their money. It also enables us to evolve towards a cashless environment, which reduces costs and security risks at our forecourts.”

Tipped CEO Kimlynn Temple added that the company is excited to partner with a significant fuel brand like Sasol.

“Sasol’s support as our exclusive fuel station partner for the next year is a significant milestone in scaling our business,” said Temple.

“Tipped receivers, on average, increase gratuities by almost 40%. Each tipper can help correct our country’s economic imbalances through these small personal exchanges.”
