Good news for FNB customers who shop at Woolworths in South Africa

First National Bank (FNB) is expanding its eBucks rewards system to include select Woolworths purchases.

The bank announced that, from 1 October 2026, FNB private and Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) private clients will earn eBucks on select Woolworths purchases.

This expansion of the eBucks rewards programme will be available only to bank clients with qualifying private bank virtual cards.

FNB said the expansion is a response to its clients’ habits, with many FNB customers shopping at Woolworths.

“This new initiative brings relevant, everyday value into a broader Private offering designed to support clients across their banking, borrowing, investing, insurance and lifestyle needs,” it said.

“It also responds directly to how clients live, with a significant part of our clients already spending at Woolworths.”

FNB private banking and wealth management CEO, Sizwe Nxedlana, echoed this statement, saying that the partnership expands its ability to add value for clients.

“Woolworths strengthens our offering by giving qualifying clients another practical way to earn rewards on purchases that already form part of their monthly spend,” he said.

Unlike many other rewards programmes, the new eBucks expansion calculates a person’s total spend at all types of Woolworths stores over a month.

Rewards are then calculated based on each client’s applicable spending and their eBucks rewards level.

“Depending on their banking proposition and eligibility, qualifying clients can earn up to eB6,000 or eB10,000 in eBucks each month on eligible Woolworths spend, equivalent to R600 or R1,000 respectively,” FNB said.

eBucks’ head of rewards, Bathandwa Mbovane, said the expansion is an evolution of the system, driven by consumer habits.

“Client needs and spending behaviour continue to evolve, and rewards need to evolve with them,” he said.

“Woolworths broadens the role eBucks can play across several important areas of everyday spend while keeping the earning experience clear and relevant.”

He said a large focus of the initiative is ensuring that value is added to the rewards programme, rather than simply increasing its footprint.

“The strength of eBucks lies in creating benefits that clients can genuinely use,” he said.

“Woolworths adds meaningful everyday value to an already compelling proposition for FNB Private and RMB Private Bank clients, bringing more value across everyday spending categories while making their banking relationship even more rewarding.”
