Unified communications migrating into the cloud: IS
Moving unified communications into the cloud is starting to gain traction globally, according Converged communications service provider, Internet Solutions, a trend the group believes will continue grow.
Derek Wilcocks, MD at Internet Solutions told BusinessTech: “Unified communications (UC) hosted in the cloud is also starting to gain popularity worldwide, but it is still in the early experimental stage. However, as more businesses start to see how they can use UC to reduce costs and improve collaboration, the adoption rate will steadily increase.”
Wilcocks said that IS would look to focus on its product offerings in 2012, especially in the cloud space. “Companies are increasingly looking to outsource their data centres to benefit from all that this technology has to offer,” he said.
IS noted the proliferation of a growing number of last-mile services throughout Africa. These were mainly mobile and satellite solutions, but the group also highlighted a number of fibre projects rolling out.
“Internet Solutions, through our Carrier business unit, is already rolling-out various products that offer wireless last mile solutions, which is very exciting,” Wilcocks said.
“In the client segment there is growth from clients who are expanding into Africa and we are key enablers of that growth and expansion. This is a big driver for us and a key driver for IS International,” he continued.
The group pointed to the rapidly-expanding adoption of technology in the SMME segment.
“There is also a growing trend to outsource a number of other technologies and services, which I expect will become more commonplace in 2012 and beyond. To meet this growing demand Internet Solutions is partnering with Dimension Data to provide these services,” Wilcocks said.
