Power utility Eskom has announced that load shedding will be escalated again this week, moving to stage 5 on Monday.
The load shedding stages will vary, dropping to stage 3 on Tuesday (28 February), and then returning to stage 3 and stage 4, Eskom said.
The new schedule is as follows:
Sunday, 26 February
- Stage 4: until 00h00
Monday, 27 February
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 16h00
- Stage 5: 16h00 to 00h00
Tuesday, 28 February
- Stage 5: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
Wednesday, 29 February
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 until further notice
Eskom said that several units have returned to service, but breakdowns have occurred at others. There have also been delays in returning units to service, which are adding to contraints
In addition to this, power imports from Mozambique have been halved to 600MW due to a line failure in that country.
Breakdowns account for 16,900MW being out of service, while 4,700MW is offline for planned maintenance.
