Stage 4 load shedding continues this week – here is the new schedule
Eskom will rotate between stage 3 and stage 4 load shedding this week.
Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 on Monday, with stage 4 being implemented until 05:00 on Tuesday.
Eskom said that the pattern will continue until further notice, with the embattled power utility issuing a further update if any significant changes occur.
The schedule is as follows:
Sunday, 2 April
- Stage 4: until 00h00
Monday, 3 April
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
Tuesday, 4 April
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 3 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
Eskom said that breakdowns currently stand at 15 148MW of generating capacity, with 7,417 MW of generating capacity out for service ahead of the winter period – which sees increased demand.
Eskom said that four generation units were returned to service at Kriel, Matimba, Matla and Tutuka power stations in the last 24 hours.
However, a generating unit each at Duvha, Hendrina and Kriel power stations were taken offline for repairs in the same period.
Eskom said that delays in returning a unit to service at Duvha and Tutuka power stations are exacerbating capacity constraints.
The embattled power utility has faced several headwinds over the last few months and was recently served a nearly R1 billion fine.
As reported by TimesLive, sources at Eskom said that the Frech firm Framatome was awarded R950 million in damages due to Eskom postponing planned work during a planned maintenance period that began last year.
The French firm has a contract to replace six steam generators at South Africa’s only nuclear power station, Koeberg.
Framatome was also awarded R650 million from Eskom last year.
“There are now over 100 active contractual disputes between Eskom and Framatome, with a single one of them with a value of approximately R1 billion,” energy analyst Peter Becker said.
