Here is the official petrol price for October
The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has published the official fuel price adjustments that will kick in on Wednesday, 2 October 2024.
Following a strong start to recoveries at the beginning of September, a stable global oil price and a stronger rand versus the dollar have to a sizeable cut for petrol and diesel.
This has translated to a fifth consecutive cut at the pumps, with prices coming down by between R1.06 and R1.14 per litre for petrol and between R1.12 and R1.14 per litre for diesel.
The table below outlines the changes:
Fuel | Change |
Petrol 93 | decrease of106 cents per litre |
Petrol 95 | decrease of 114 cents per litre |
Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) | decrease of 114 cents per litre |
Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) | decrease of 112 cents per litre |
Illuminating Paraffin | decrease of 111 cents per litre |
LPGAS | increase of 23 cents per kg |
The average international product prices for Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin decreased during the period under review.
The Rand appreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 30 August 2024 to 26 September 2024 was 17.6723 compared to 18.0578 during the previous period.
This led to a lower contribution to the Basic Fuel Prices on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 21.91 c/l, 22.33 c/l, 22.44c/l respectively.
In terms of the Working Rules to administer the BFP, the differentials between 95 and 93 petrol grades are adjusted at the beginning of each quarter.
The BFP differentials between 95 and 93 petrol grades have changed and therefore the different price adjustments between the two grades.
In line with the provisions of the Self-Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism, the Slate Levy on petrol and diesel will remain at 0.00 c/l with effect from 02 October 2024
