A DA official on Thursday confirmed the party was responsible for a billboard erected in Port Elizabeth, which took aim at Mayor Danny Jordaan.
“Yes, it was a DA billboard,” Democratic Alliance MP Andrew Whitfield told News24 on Thursday morning.
This was after DA mayoral candidate Atholl Trollip’s spokesperson Kristoff Adelbert earlier said he was not sure if the party was responsible, as the national office handled the party’s marketing, the Rand Daily Mail reported.
“Danny Jordaan has this morning personally and in writing instructed the removal of the DA billboard, showing him to be the personal protector of Jacob Zuma,” Whitfield said in a statement.
Whitfield, a campaign manager for Nelson Mandela Bay, claimed Jordaan gave no reasons for the removal. The DA was consulting its lawyers about taking urgent legal action against Jordaan and the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality.
The billboard, conveniently placed between two DA billboards, and branded in ANC colours, states: “Danny Jordaan, proudly brought to you by Jacob Zuma”, Power FM reported.
Whitfield said the DA had been denied permission to march on Thursday over President Jacob Zuma.
“The reasons given for refusing us permission were spurious, and probably illegal.”
He claimed the municipality was being used to protect the ANC and Zuma.
