Petrol price unchanged, diesel decrease for May

The petrol price will remain unchanged in May, while the cost of diesel, illuminating paraffin, and liquid petroleum gas will come down, the Department of Energy said on 1 May.

The department said the main factors contributing to this month’s price adjustments were the average increase in the crude oil and petrol prices internationally, and the slightly weaker Rand during April 2015 compared to March 2015.

South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set by the global markets.

These fuel price adjustment will be effective from 6 May 2015, and will be as follows:

  • Diesel will decrease by 5 cents per litre.
  • Petrol will remain unchanged.
  • Illuminating paraffin will decrease by 7 cents per litre.
  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas will decrease by 17 cents per kilogram.

The full pricing schedule for South Africa’s different zones will be published on 5 May.
