ANC has not discussed Zuma recall: Mantashe

The ANC has not discussed recalling President Jacob Zuma, following a turbulent 24-hours in the political landscape of the country, Reuters reported.
The ruling party is due to hold a summit this weekend amid allegations from within the ANC, that the Gupta family, who have close links to the president, have tried to capture the state.
Former ANC MP Barbara Hogan and current MP Jackson Mthembu on Wednesday added their voices speaking out against the Gupta family’s involvement in South African politics.
Deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas alleged on Wednesday that the Gupta family had offered him the position of finance minister after former finmin Nhlanhla Nene was given the boot.
Jonas said he rejected the offer, calling it a “mockery of our hard earned democracy”, while the Guptas have denied any such offer took place.
ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe told ENCA that he has not spoken to president Zuma since the allegations emerged on Wednesday.
ANC spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa confirmed to 702 that the ANC will discuss the Gupta state capture allegations and way forward at the ANC NEC meeting this weekend, though nothing has been said of a recall for Zuma.
“We must welcome all those who come forward, and now we need to deal with it to restore the credibility of our democratic state,” Kodwa said.
“At this moment we don’t want to preempt talks of recalling the president, these are serious allegations, we need to investigate.”
Zuma is expected to answer tough questions from opposition parties in Parliament on Thursday.
The ANC will officially launch its 2016 Local Government Election Manifesto at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape Province on the 16th of April 2016.
The rand meanwhile, firmed to R15.52 (0.80%) against the dollar by 13h00.
