EFF rejects coalitions with ANC and DA – report

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has rejected coalition governments with the ANC and DA, according to a report by TimesLive.

This would mean that the ANC would likely retain control of Johannesburg, while the DA would take control of Tshwane TimesLive said, citing highly placed sources.

A source who attended the EFF’s central command team meeting on Monday said the party would limit its participation in councils to deliberations on policy issues.

“We will vote on issues‚ but not on who gets what position or from which party a mayor must come from. We do not have a mandate from our people to govern‚” the source said.

Another source, who formed part of the negotiating team, said: “After lengthy discussions and negotiations the EFF decided that they will abstain from voting.

“They claim that they respect the fact that voters did not give them a mandate to govern.”
