ANC must disband, drop its name, and join the EFF in a new party: Malema

Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema says that his party will have nothing to do with the ANC until it reforms – and suggests the party disband and join the EFF under a new name.

Malema was speaking at a party meeting in Durban, where he told supporters that the ANC had sold out to white capitalists under the rule of Nelson Mandela, and broke the ANC’s radical stance on reform.

The EFF leader has been outspoken against the ANC – which expelled him from the party in 2012 – being highly critical of president Jacob Zuma, and his supporters within the party.

Following the 2016 municipal elections, the EFF emerged as the ‘kingmakers’ in major metros across the country, holding enough council seats to swing power into the hands of either the ANC or the opposing Democratic Alliance.

In negotiations ahead of final council votes, the EFF said it would support the ANC on condition that Zuma step down, among other reforms – however, the ANC rejected these demands, and subsequently lost Tshwane and City of Johannesburg to the DA.

Now Malema says the ANC’s time will come in 2019, when the ruling party’s support drops below 50% and it needs the EFF to retain power.

“When the ANC gets less than 50%, and needs the vote of the EFF to govern SA, we will tell them here are the votes, but we are collapsing the ANC and the EFF into one new organisation,” Malema said.

“We will find the name and we do away with the ANC completely and its history and its legacy of succumbing to white supremacy.”

Malema again criticised the ANC for ‘selling out’ to white businesses, compromising on radical reforms – such as land redistribution and nationalisation – for money.

The EFF leader said that his party would become financially independent without turning to white money, even if it means offering up portions of his own salary every month.

It is currently EFF policy that all elected officials pay half of their salaries to the party for the first three months of their jobs – thereafter, continue paying 10%.
