When and where over 250,000 South Africans will be marching on Wednesday
Cosatu and the SA Communist Party (SACP), will on Wednesday (27 September) take to the streets as part of a national shutdown in a show of force against President Jacob Zuma, with over 250,000 South Africans expected to join the various marches.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday morning, Cosatu confirmed that the strike was legally protected and urged workers, communities, civil society and students to join en masse to voice their displeasure against the president as well as the troubled economy.
“State capture and corruption have a negative impact on investment, national production development and jobs,” said the trade union.
“Unemployed and employed workers are on the receiving end of the persisting high levels of unemployment and job losses”.
Cosatu said it was determined to make its presence felt in the policy terrain.
“We are gradually re-asserting ourselves as a social force for transformation and are also diligently rebuilding our organised power, including our capacity to mobilise,” it said.
Below you can find the full list of planned marches, the proposed routes, as well as start and stop times.
A number of businesses across the country are also expected to close as workers partake in a mass stay-away.
