ICASA strike resolved

 ·24 Jan 2012

The Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) settled their wage dispute on 23 January 2012, Stephen Mncube, chairman of ICASA confirmed today (21 January 2012).

According to media reports, unionised ICASA staff rejected an offer of a 5% increase.

ICASA then offered an additional 3% granted on a sliding scale, which translated to an effective 8% increase to employees at the bottom end of the salary scale. As employment level increases, the raise decreases to a minimum of 6.5%.

This was rejected as well and staff began striking on Friday (20 January 2012).

Mncube said that they worked over the weekend to resolve the wage conflict, adding that compared to past disputes ICASA put the matter to bed quickly.

It is understood that the strike action was resolved when ICASA offered an 8% increase across the board.
