The head of the Department of Public Enterprises, Tshediso Matona, is expected to be announced as Eskom’s new CEO next week.
This is according to the Sunday Times, reporting that the announcement is expected on Wednesday.
Minister of public enterprises, Lynne Brown, said recently that she was treating the appointment of a permanent CEO with urgency.
Former Eskom CEO, Brian Dames stepped down from the position at the end of March 2014, and was replaced by former National Energy Regulator of SA chairman, Collin Matjila, in an acting capacity.
The power utility Eskom is also reportedly trying to fill other executive positions including the top finance job, the Times said.
Matona has worked almost two decades in government, and could be viewed as a political appointee, the Sunday paper said, adding that Matona has no experience of running a business, citing a political adviser.
