Massive 37-day water disruption and outages hitting this month – these are all the areas affected

 ·11 Jun 2024

Rand Water will be embarking on a 37-day maintenance regime that will see days-long water disruptions hitting parts of Gauteng on a set schedule.

According to the water utility, it will be embarking on “an extensive proactive maintenance of its infrastructure” from 22 June to 29 July 2024.

This is proactive infrastructure maintenance, it said, and is being done to preserve the integrity of its infrastructure, reduce maintenance costs in the long term, and increase the life span of the assets.

“A maintained water infrastructure ensures uninterrupted water supply for the current and future generation,” it said.

The utility said it has engaged with municipal customers and officially notified them of the maintenance schedule to ensure they have at least a 21-day advance warning to prepare and put appropriate measures in place to deal with downtime and outages.

Customers should be warned by their municipality of what to do, but the utility itself advised residents to store water ahead of the maintenance that will impact their area.

The table below outlines when maintenance will be done, how systems will be impacted, and which areas will be affected.

“Impacted municipalities are requested to advise their customers on the extent and impact of water supply and on contingency plans that will be put in place. Rand Water will provide updates throughout the maintenance period,” it said.
