ANC planning drastic shake-up for South Africa: report

 ·16 Aug 2015

The ANC is planning a complete overhaul of the state, which may see some provinces disappearing, and more power vested in municipalities. This is according to a report in The Sunday Independent.

The report further stated that the ANC may look at lifestyle audits for all senior civil servants, and better vetting of all strategically placed civil servants.

This report follows the ANC’s lekgotla last month, after which a discussion document with these suggestions was produced and sent to the party’s provincial structures.

In a related report, ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe conceded that little progress has been made on unemployment, poverty and inequality.

He suggested a focus on issues like land reform, the creation of a state-owned mining company, an investigation into mineral trading, and speeding up broadband rollout.

The full reports are available in the Sunday Independent newspaper of 16 August 2015.
