Expansys goes AWOL

 ·11 Jan 2013

Expansys South Africa – which claims to be the largest online store for smartphones, netbooks, laptops and accessories in the country – is currently offline and unreachable, amid numerous complaints from customers.

The company has attracted a host of complaints on consumer website HelloPeter since the start of the year, with many citing an inability to get in touch with the group after having placed an order online.

Attempts by BusinessTech to contact the company proved futile.

Clicking onto the website delivered the following message:

“We are sorry for any inconvenience; however the Expansys South Africa site is undergoing some updates and enhancements today.”

One customer wrote the following message on HelloPeter  on Friday (11 January):

“I placed an order on the 12 of December 2012. I paid and received a confirmation of order. Never to hear from them again. It’s almost been a month now and my order hasn’t arrived. I cannot get hold of anybody in their call centre and their website is down. I urge anyone considering ordering from them to not do so. You might be out of your money with nothing in hand.”

Another wrote:

“I placed an order on 23 November, which I still have not received.
According to the expansys website they should have resumed operations on 9 January.

“However no one responds to my emails regarding the status of my order.
No one is answering their 0861 number even after repeated calls and holding on for +- 5 minutes every time.”

Expansys was founded in the UK and has regional offices in the UK, France, the USA, and Hong Kong.
