The Youth is our FUTURE.

The Helpende Hand Studietrust is a lifeline for many South African students building a bridge between giving up due to financial difficulties and successful completion of a qualification.

The sense of accomplishment and skilled confidence with successful completion has a direct positive impact on the community and socio-economic wellbeing of South Africa in the longer term.

By perusing the Section 18A tax benefit as a donor, YOU directly contribute to the above-mentioned positive effect!

For many South Africans, tertiary education is nothing more than a dream due to the exorbitant cost burden of accredited courses.

These costs exclude day to day living expenses, which compound the affordability problem.

The Helpende Hand Studietrust provides a sustainable platform comprising of systems, structures and processes encouraging donors and other relevant role-players to be a part of a solution for many South African students.

It provides critical peace of mind for the donor who knows that funds are managed optimally, ensuring continuity for the next generation.

You can be a part of the WIN – WIN solution by helping young South African students reach their dreams whilst reducing your tax burden at the same time.

Here’s how the tax deduction works

According to Section 18 of the Law on Income Tax, any bona fide donations made to registered Public Beneficiary Organisations (PBOs) – such as Helpende Hand Studietrust – are tax-deductible with a Section 18A tax certificate.

The Section 18A certificate allows taxpaying individuals and companies to make donations to Helpende Hand Studietrust and claim a tax deduction of up to 10% of their taxable income each year.

For example: If you have a taxable income of R100,000, the tax on that is 28%, or R28,000, due to SARS.

However, you can choose to donate a maximum of 10% of your taxable income to the Helpende Hand Studietrust, making your taxable income only R90,000, which reduces the total amount of tax you have to pay.

You then only have to pay R25,200 in tax, decreasing your overall tax burden to SARS while making a massive difference in a student’s life.

These deductions are available whether you donate monthly or once-off, so you are able to choose the option that suits you best.

Helpende Hand Studietrust

The Helpende Hand Studietrust, a division of Solidariteit Helpende Hand, was founded and established in 2009 as a platform for donors and students to help students in need through interest-free student loans.

The interest-free student loan model provides for a sustainable full circle approach to continuity.

The approach ensures that the next student or more students are given an opportunity to study with an interest-free student loan.

The Helpende Hand Studietrust team facilitates and collaborates with you as a donor to ensure that the fund is optimally managed.
