We forgot load-shedding existed when using the Gizzu Hero Pro power station
Gizzu gave us the chance to try out its Hero Pro portable power station, and we were impressed with its capacity to handle electricity-hungry appliances during load-shedding.
This is thanks to its huge 2,048Wh Lithium Iron Phosphate LiFePO4 battery, which offers up to three times the charge cycles supported by traditional lithium-ion batteries.
We were also able to confirm Gizzu’s claim that its LiFePO4 battery could charge from 0-100% in under two hours – which was especially useful for getting it ready between loadshedding.
Below we have outlined our in-depth thoughts on the Gizzu Hero Pro 2048Wh portable power station.

Powering your devices with ease
The Hero Pro’s impressive battery capacity allows it to handle even the most power-intensive appliances, including:
- 55-inch LED TV (140W): 11.7 hrs
- Desktop PC (300W): 5.5 hrs
- Microwave (800W): 2 hrs
- Electric Drill (850W): 1.9 hrs
- Washing Machine (850W): 1.9 hrs
- Espresso Machine (1500W): 1.1 hrs
- Airfryer (1800W): 0.9 hrs
- Hairdryer (1800W): 0.9 hrs

We found that the Hero Pro could handle anything that we threw at it during load-shedding – with our tests including several of the devices mentioned above.
Of particular convenience during our testing was the wide array of output ports on the Hero Pro.
These ports include:
- 2x 220V South African three-prong plug
- 3x USB Type-C PD 20W
- 1x USB Type-C PD 100W
- 2x USB Type-A QC3.0 18W
- 2x DC5521
- 1x Car socket port
- 1x XT60
Running our TV and desktop PC at the same time was seamless throughout the load-shedding period, and to put this power station through its paces, we also made several espressos with our coffee machine, and warmed up some food with our airfryer.
The Hero Pro handled it all thanks to its large battery and support for 2,400W output power – which can also support intensive machinery like circular saws and fridges.
The power station was then fully charged and ready to do it all again by the time the next load-shedding period arrived.

Convenience unmatched
The Hero Pro features a compact design, weighing only 22.5kgs, and easily fit in your boot to be transported to events or trips.
You will benefit from the design most commonly when you want to move this power station around your house, as we found it easy for a single person to carry this portable power station to different parts of our office.

However, we would recommend keeping the Hero Pro in the same place for most of the time, as this lets you maximise its UPS functionality.
With this feature, while your home’s power is on, your appliances will not use the Hero Pro’s battery – instead, the power will flow from your plug points through the Hero Pro and to your appliances.
Then, when load-shedding strikes, your appliances switch to using the Hero Pro’s battery within ten milliseconds.
We tried out this UPS functionality as part of our testing, and it worked seamlessly, ensuring our TV and PC stayed on even when the power went out.
