vivo V30 5G review – Light it up with unrivalled smartphone photography
Vivo recently launched its V30 5G flagship smartphone in South Africa, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on it.
After opening the box, we were immediately impressed by the V30 5G’s sleek design, which houses its headline feature – the Aura Light Portrait module.
This tool comprises a rectangular module positioned below the main camera array that is a massively improved version of the traditional smartphone flash.
The Aura Light Portrait module emits 19 times the light and has 50 times the light softness of a conventional smartphone camera flash.
This made a huge difference to our photos, which came out crystal clear and in breathtaking detail.
The module also uses intelligent tools to make your photos even better. For example, Vivo’s Smart Colour Temperature Adjustment technology intelligently balances image lighting in warm or cool light to create more natural-looking photos.
At night, we found the improved lighting and contrasts delivered by the Aura Light Portrait module particularly useful, providing shots of unmatched quality and clarity.
Of course, all of this extra lighting isn’t meaningful without an impressive camera system – and vivo equipped the V30 5G accordingly.
This includes a rear camera system with two 50MP sensors and a 2MP sensor for wide-angle shots and improved depth of field.
These sensors combine to deliver superb photos in a wide range of scenarios, while the front 50MP camera takes brilliant selfies.
Display
Another highlight of the V30 5G is its 6.78-inch Ultra Clear Sunlight display, which boasts a 1.5K resolution and 2,800-nit peak local brightness.
We found that all our snaps looked awesome on this display, as they were bright, sharp, and vibrant.
The vibrance of our photos was unsurprising, as the V30 5G’s display features a P3 Colour Gamut that provides over one billion unique colours.
When we watched our favourite shows on this smartphone, the wide colour gamut truly stood out, and it also combined with the display’s 120Hz refresh rate to make gaming sessions immersive.
Performance
These games, as well as all of our other apps, were powered seamlessly by the V30 5G’s cutting-edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, 512GB storage, and 24GB memory (12GB RAM and 12GB extended memory).
With so much memory, the V30 5G can run smoothly with up to 48 apps running in the background, and while we didn’t try to overload it to this level, we ran plenty of background apps without any hitches.
We also noticed that when running all these apps, we never encountered overheating issues. This is thanks to the smartphone’s Ultra Large Smart Cooling System, which keeps the V30 5G cool under the heaviest loads.
Battery
A 5,000mAh complements the vivo V30 5G’s incredible performance and ensures all-day performance even in intensive scenarios.
Even such a massive battery can be charged up in no time thanks to vivo’s 80W SuperCharge technology.
In combination, you will never get caught out by load-shedding again.
Verdict
The vivo V30 5G aims at the title of best portrait smartphone in South Africa, and based on our experience, it has clearly achieved this.
Combined with its impressive performance and stunning display, it is a great option for any South African.
