CTU Training Solutions prepares students for the future with transition from Legacy to Occupational Qualifications

 ·21 May 2024

CTU Training Solutions, a leading private tertiary education institution in South Africa, is gearing up for a significant transition in the country’s education landscape. As of June 30, 2023, the institution will bid farewell to legacy qualifications, paving the way for the adoption of occupational qualifications aligned with current industry demands.

Transition from legacy to modern training

Legacy qualifications, characterised by their historical relevance but outdated nature, will be phased out to make room for Occupational Qualifications developed under the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) framework. This shift represents a crucial step towards ensuring that learners are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to thrive in today’s dynamic job market.

Commitment to relevant education

“At CTU Training Solutions, we are committed to providing our students with education and training that aligns with the evolving needs of industries,” says Renée Botha, Academic Registrar at CTU Training Solutions. “The transition from legacy to occupational qualifications underscores our dedication to staying relevant and equipping our graduates with the skills required to succeed in their chosen fields.”

Key dates and the smooth shift

The transition process includes key dates and transitional arrangements to facilitate a smooth shift for learners. Learners enrolled in legacy qualifications have until June 30, 2024, to complete their studies, with the last date for achievement extended to June 30, 2027. During this “Teach out period,” learners registered before June 30, 2024, will continue with their studies and assessments, ensuring uninterrupted progress towards their qualifications.

Focus on practical skills and competencies

Occupational qualifications, unlike their legacy counterparts, focus on practical skills and industry-specific competencies. Developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders, these qualifications aim to bridge the gap between education and employment by providing learners with hands-on experience and relevant training tailored to meet industry demands.

Supporting students throughout their journey

“As we embrace this transition, we are also mindful of our students’ needs and aspirations,” adds Botha. “We are dedicated to supporting our learners throughout this process, offering guidance and assistance as they navigate their educational journey and make informed decisions about their future.”

CTU Training Solutions encourages all current students to explore their options for the future, including registering for available occupational qualifications in 2025. The institution remains committed to empowering individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in today’s competitive job market.
