ASUS ExpertBook P5 review – A sleek laptop with superb AI-enhanced performance
The ASUS ExpertBook P5 is a lightweight and powerful laptop perfect for professionals who need to work with the latest AI tools and breeze through business tasks.
This was our key finding after reviewing the ExpertBook P5 before it launches in South Africa in October.
The ASUS ExpertBook P5 draws this strong performance from its Intel Core Ultra 5 or Ultra 7 CPU – with the model we reviewed packing the high-end Ultra 7.
Both Ultra processors have dedicated Neural Processing Units (NPUs) which make the ExpertBook P5 the ultimate laptop for completing AI-powered tasks – from using Microsoft’s native Copilot AI Assistant to rendering AI-generated images and videos.
The NPU also powers a wealth of dedicated ASUS AI features, including:
- AI file search – Search for and manage your important files with ease. You can use natural language to find specific files, and streamline different types of files into specific groupings and folders with just a few clicks.
- Generative transcripts – This tool accurately records and transcribes your online calls. You can also use it to translate presentations into different languages – which is particularly useful for multi-national business meetings.
- Generative meeting notes – When you take notes or use the generative transcript function, this tool will summarise content into easy-to-consume segments. This ensures you leave every meeting with all the necessary information.
- AI voiceprint – Innovative AI technology that isolates voices from background noise. This results in cleaner meeting audio and more pleasant online conversations.
We made several calls using Google Meet and Zoom, and found the ExpertBook P5’s meeting-focused AI features worked flawlessly – even when contending with our noisy office.
Supporting the CPU in these intensive AI tasks is 32GB LPDDR5X RAM and Intel Arc 140V integrated graphics.
Our unit also came with 2TB of SSD storage and a generous range of ports, including two Thunderbolt 2 USB ports, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Enhanced security
Strong security on business laptops is essential for protecting sensitive organisational data – and the ASUS ExpertBook P5 has been outfitted accordingly.
This begins with simple but highly effective features like a fingerprint sensor and a Kensington Nono security lock, which ensure your laptop won’t be stolen or accessed by others when you’re not around.
Adding to this is its ASUS Adaptive Lock, which automatically detects when you are away from the laptop and locks the device – before unlocking it when it identifies your face.
The laptop comes with a webcam shield that can slide over the camera, too, for guaranteed privacy when it’s not in use.
A strong software defence has also been priorities by ASUS, and the ExpertBook P5 has a commercial-grade, NIST-155-ready BIOS for ultimate software-based protection.
This is complemented by Windows 11 Secured-core PC technologies that provide extra protection for professionals handling sensitive information.
Further securing your data is a discrete TPM 2.0 chip to protect all your critical business info at a hardware level.
Design and display
The ASUS ExpertBook P5’s display is an excellent 14-inch 2.5K LED screen that delivers impressive brightness and colour accuracy – at 400nits and an sRGB ratio of 100%, respectively.
It features anti-glare technology, which makes this laptop ideal for use in a variety of conditions – including when the sun is out in full force.
This is complemented by a sleek backlit keyboard that has 1.5mm key-travel, making the laptop a pleasure to use and type of for extended periods.
All of the hardware I then housed within a robust chassis that meets military-grade durability standards to ensure your ExpertBook P5 last longer.
Verdict
The ASUS ExpertBook P5 is a sleek, lightweight business laptop that delivers exceptional performance.
With powerful AI enhancements and extensive security features, it’s the perfect laptop for professionals handling sensitive data and performing important business tasks.
The ASUS ExpertBook P5 will be available from South African retailers in October.
