Huawei Cloud has made significant strides in South Africa, introducing innovative technologies and services aimed at enhancing digital transformation for local organisations.

During Huawei Cloud’s inaugural National Summit in South Africa, Mark Chen, President of Global Solution Sales, unveiled key offerings that promise to meet the growing demand for advanced cloud solutions in the region.

New Offerings for Local Organisations

One of the standout products is the Huawei Cloud Stack 8.5, the latest iteration of their hybrid cloud service. This solution is tailored to address the needs of South African businesses, offering over 120 on-premises cloud services across 13 categories.

Notably, this includes 50 industry-specific solutions, catering to various sectors and enhancing operational capabilities.

For small to mid-sized enterprises, Huawei has launched Huawei Cloud Flexus. This offering provides flexible configurations along with AI-driven high-speed performance.

With a 6x burst speed capability and cost savings of 30-35% compared to traditional virtual machines, Flexus is designed to empower smaller businesses to leverage the cloud effectively.

In addition to these offerings, Huawei Cloud also introduced its multimodal large language model, Pangu, aimed at simplifying AI adoption across industries.

Furthermore, the GaussDB, a next-generation distributed database, is positioned as an innovative solution for organizations seeking a more efficient database management system.

Chen emphasised Huawei Cloud’s rapid growth, collaborating with over 45,000 partners to create innovative solutions that drive digital transformation in emerging economies like South Africa.

With three local availability zones and a robust infrastructure supported by over 1,000 engineers, Huawei is committed to fostering a cloud-first digital environment in the country.

The Role of Cloud in Business Transformation

Prominent leaders from various industries shared insights on how Huawei Cloud is facilitating their digital journeys. Pandelani Munyai, CIO of Transnet Group, highlighted the cloud’s extensive features and integrations that enable automation and operational efficiency.

He stressed the importance of cloud infrastructure for successfully adopting technologies like AI.

Sunil Nagar, head of Technology & Operations at Standard Bank IAM, echoed this sentiment, stating that data and AI are pivotal in their digital transformation.

He noted that a mature, cloud-based platform is essential for bridging business and technology, and affirmed the strong partnership between Standard Bank and Huawei Cloud.

Additionally, Huawei Cloud is collaborating with organisations such as Sekunjalo Group and Inzalo EMS to further drive business growth and transformation.

The summit also emphasised the cloud’s critical role in South Africa’s economic development.

Nonkqubela Thathakahle Jordan-Dyani, Director-General of the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, underscored that intelligent and reliable cloud services are foundational to the national digital agenda.

The newly introduced National Data and Cloud Policy aims to efficiently manage data through cloud technologies, recognizing data as a strategic asset for the digital economy.

This policy focuses on data sovereignty, with partners like Huawei assisting in local data storage.

A panel discussion featuring industry leaders, including Jacqueline Shi from Huawei Cloud and Juanita Clark from the Digital Council Africa, highlighted the necessity of collaboration between the public and private sectors. They emphasised equitable access to the internet and emerging technologies as essential for enabling all South Africans to participate in the digital economy.
