How to scale your AI initiatives with confidence in South Africa
Sound data management and governance are at the heart of successful AI initiatives.
This is according to InfoVerge Solutions experts who were presenting in a series of webinars focused on AI.
These experts discussed building AI roadmaps, scaling AI usage, and governing AI for responsible use.
We unpack each of these webinars in more detail, below.
Webinar one
The first of the webinars, titled Building the Foundation for AI, featured InfoVerge CTO, Skhumbuzo Mjoji.
This webinar is targeted at organisations at the start or midpoint of their AI journeys.
Mjoji provided insight into the major challenges facing organisations, including inaccurate, inconsistent, and low-quality data, as well as insufficient data and processing infrastructure.
“AI is having a huge impact on society and business,” explained Mjoji.
“But for our AI initiative’s success depends on a robust data foundation.”
Mjoji outlined the key steps for building a strong foundation, noting factors such as creating an AI-first data strategy, establishing a single source of truth, and continuously managing, governing, and securing data.
Webinar two
The second webinar was titled From Data to Intelligence: Activating Smarter Operations and unpacked the importance of operational maturity.
It is targeted at organisations that have laid the groundwork, and are now looking to realise measurable business value.
The discussion featured Chief Data Officer at InfoVerge Solutions, Ntiyiso Mayile, who noted that AI success depends on operational maturity.
According to Mayile, a lean and structured MLOps approach helps reduce project failure, and allows organisations to turn insights into tangible impact.
“It all goes back to governance and having the fundamental data foundations in place,” said Mayile.
Organisations that view this webinar can use its insights to speed up decision-making and enhance their competitive edge.
Webinar three
The final of the three webinars – Scaling AI Success: Governance, Ethics and Future-Proofing – featured both previous speakers, who focused on the scale and speed of AI adoption in the modern marketplace.
Hey highlighted that adopting AI is only the beginning of your organisation’s journey, and it is scaling it responsibly where lasting value is created.
This process must take into account an evolving AI regulatory landscape.
“As fast as the technology grows, you have regulatory bodies trying to catch up with governance policies,” said Mjoji.
“South Africa does, in fact, have a national AI policy, and we will see more regulations drafted as AI is more widely adopted.”
Mayile highlighted that data shows users are still unconfident when it comes to navigating AI usage in South Africa.
“For example, many organisations are using a Copilot, and in doing so, they accept all the terms and conditions and opt in to allow it to access all your data,” said Mayile.
“Some of it could be sensitive, such as contracts and personal information. If you simply accept the terms and conditions, you are at risk.”
