Introducing Standard Bank Money Reels – See what your money habits say about you

 ·2 Dec 2025

Standard Bank has launched its brand-new Money Reels feature, which turns your 2025 money habits into a personalised recap.

Effectively serving as your spending’s own highlight reel, Money Reels gives you the ability to look back on your year’s swipes, taps, and savings – highlighting important memories worth re-living.

Whether it is making exciting purchases at your most-loved store or setting up an investment that will improve your future, you can relive it all on the Standard Bank banking app.

Your SB Money Reel can help you understand your past spending choices to help you make better financial decisions in the future.

For example, perhaps you are spending too much money at your favourite clothing store, or your daily coffee order is adding up higher than you thought. Your SB Money Reel will highlight these trends so that you can address them.

This is just another way that Standard Bank makes managing your finances both fun and intuitive.

Interesting insights

Alongside providing individual Money Reels to its clients, Standard Bank has also used this spending data to identify several “money stories” happening across South Africa.

One such insight was that spending was at its highest in February – which is famously the month of love, but also financial year-end.

In contrast, South Africans saved the most money in December, despite the fact that the festive season is a period closely associated with spending.

This is a great sign that South Africans are enjoying the festive season without spending irresponsibly.

Furthermore, Standard Bank was happy to see that the biggest payday spending was to paid towards loans and savings.

This is a sign that clients are making responsible decisions with their money – handling their debts rather than building more liabilities.
