 ·14 Jan 2026

Somerset College is an independent, co-educational school situated on a beautiful estate in the Winelands of the Western Cape.

It offers schooling from Grade 000 (age 4) to Matric, as well as Cambridge A-Levels. Boarding is available for students in the Senior School.

Somerset College proudly celebrates the exceptional achievements of the IEB Matric Class of 2025, whose results reflect the school’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and holistic education.

The Class of 2025 achieved an outstanding average of 4.15 A symbols per student, continuing a strong nine-year trend in which Somerset College has maintained an average of at least three A symbols per student.

We are equally proud to uphold our unbroken 100% Bachelor’s Degree pass rate, ensuring that every matriculant qualifies for university study.

With these exceptional results, Somerset College was ranked as the top IEB school in the Western Cape and tied 4th nationally.

Impressive results

Of the 75 candidates, 39 achieved an A average, 28 a B average, and 8 a C average, with every student attaining a C average or higher.

Seven students achieved an exceptional overall average of 90% or above, while the overall cohort average stands at 79.41%.

Academic performance across subjects was particularly noteworthy:

  • 58% of all subject entries achieved A symbols
  • 82.5% achieved B symbols or higher
  • 95% achieved C symbols or higher

Somerset College students also excelled nationally.

Nina Benson, Anna Blecha and Karla Duvengage (100% for Mathematics) received Outstanding Achievement Awards for ranking in the top 5% of IEB candidates nationally across six or more subjects, along with an A symbol in Life Orientation.

Keita Crawford-Bestelink and Ava Retief received Commendable Achievement Awards for ranking in the top 5% nationally across five subjects, also with an A symbol in Life Orientation.

In addition, Somerset College students earned an impressive 32 Top 1% awards across a wide range of subjects, including Mathematics, Further Studies Mathematics, Accounting, Sciences, Languages, History, Life Orientation and the Arts.

In all but one academic department, Somerset College’s average exceeded the national IEB average, with results in 11 subjects more than 10% higher nationally.

Notably, Mathematics Core and Accounting averages were over 20% higher than the national average.

These achievements speak to the fortitude and resilience of the Class of 2025, and to the passion, professionalism and dedication of our exceptional teaching staff.

We extend sincere thanks to our parent community for their steadfast support throughout this pivotal year.

As the Class of 2025 joins the Old Oaks alumni community, we thank them for the meaningful contributions they have made to Somerset College and wish them every success in the journeys ahead.
