Xiaomi expands premium TV options in South Africa with QD-Mini LED range
Xiaomi is expanding its South African home entertainment portfolio with the launch of its TV S QD-Mini LED range in four large-screen sizes.
The 65-inch, 75-inch, and 85-inch models have been available since 28 July, while the flagship 98-inch model will arrive on 3 August 2026.
These new 4K TVs deliver strong brightness and contrast across a wide range of viewing conditions, including brightly lit living rooms.
This makes them well suited to daytime sport, movies, streaming, and other entertainment without requiring viewers to darken the room.
The displays can also achieve black levels as low as 0.0001 nits and a dynamic contrast ratio of 12 million to 1.
This combination ensures deeper dark scenes, bright highlights, and detailed colour reproduction across a broad range of content.
QD-Mini LED backlighting
Powering these premium TVs is Xiaomi’s QD-Mini LED technology, which uses independently controlled backlight zones to manage brightness across different parts of the screen.
More zones allow the television to light up bright areas more precisely while limiting unwanted illumination leaking into nearby dark sections of the picture.
This is particularly useful for high-contrast scenes, such as a brightly lit sports field surrounded by darker stands.
The 65-inch Xiaomi TV S QD-Mini LED has 384 backlight zones, while the 75-inch model increases this to 512 zones.
The 85-inch version offers 640 zones, and the 98-inch flagship leads the range with 880 zones.
These high zones count as a key advantage for South Africans looking for premium display performance at more accessible prices.
Performance for gaming and sport
The 65-inch and 75-inch televisions use native 4K 60Hz panels and include a 120Hz Game Boost mode for improved motion during compatible gaming and fast-moving content.
They also support Dolby Audio and DTS:X, adding enhanced sound performance for movies, series, sport, and games.
The larger 85-inch and 98-inch models have native 4K 144Hz panels, providing additional motion clarity for high-frame-rate gaming and fast sporting action.
These models also feature a 288Hz Game Boost mode, HDMI 2.1 connectivity, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and variable refresh rate technology.
Variable refresh rate synchronises compatible gaming hardware with the television’s refresh rate, reducing tearing and inconsistent motion during gameplay.
Connected entertainment through Google TV
Every television in the range runs Google TV, giving users access to popular streaming applications, personalised content recommendations, voice search, and connected entertainment services.
The televisions also integrate with Xiaomi’s wider AIoT ecosystem, allowing compatible smart devices to be managed from the living room.
Users can connect products such as Xiaomi speakers, security cameras, smart lighting, and robot vacuum cleaners to create a more integrated smart home setup.
This makes the TV S QD-Mini LED range suitable for households that want their television to serve as both an entertainment platform and a smart home hub.
Four sizes and price points
- The 65-inch model is the entry point to the range and is priced from R9,999.
- The 75-inch model starts from R13,999 and provides a larger viewing area for families and shared entertainment spaces.
- The 85-inch model starts from R23,999 and adds its native 144Hz refresh rate, 640-zone backlight, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos support.
- The flagship 98-inch television will start from R37,999 when it launches on 3 August.
