Absa online banking services down
A month after experiencing major downtime, Absa’s Internet banking services are down once again.
Outraged customers took to social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to complain about the disruption.
“The ABSA Internet banking site is down,” one user posted to Twitter. “Should ABSA not have put a notification on their website that there were problems with the internet banking site?” the user, who identifies herself as Lynda, continued.
Responding to irate customers on its Facebook page, Absa said: “At this stage all we can offer is our apologies and the assurance that we are working to have this rectified as soon as humanly possible.”
In an update posted just before 13:00 today (29 June 2012), Absa said:
We are aware that Absa’s online and mobile banking channels have experienced intermittent downtime today. At this moment, there is no defined timeline on a resolution, but we will have an update to share at 14:00. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate the urgency of needing to make critical month-end payments.
For users who have managed to successfully login into Internet Banking, please be aware that the system is experiencing slow response times. Please be patient when waiting for payments to process, to avoid having duplicate payments made.
Absa did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
