Amazon is hiring again in SA

 ·4 Sep 2012

Online retailer Amazon.com is hiring up to 611 people in South Africa, as it looks to expand its footprint in the region.

In April, the e-commerce giant said it was looking to hire as many as 50 high-tech computer engineers to expand its development centre in Cape Town. According to a spokesperson for the group, all those positions have since been filled.

However, Amazon said it would continue its growth path through 2013, and is back on the hunt.

The group’s spokesperson told BusinessTech: “576 seasonal positions for customer service agents are now available as part of Amazon’s growth strategy in SA.”

“An additional 35 permanent engineering positions are available at Amazon web services (AWS). The majority of positions are for locals,” the spokesperson said.

Amazon’s Customer Service Centre already houses 800 hundred employees, while its development centre is expanding to accommodate 100 employees.
