Telkom’s VDSL launch details revealed
Telkom Wholesale is planning to launch its DSL Up to 20Mbps and DSL Up to 40Mbps on 4 March 2013, with expected retail prices of between R450 and R750 per month.
Telkom said in communication to its resellers that its 20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL trial – which will end on 31 January 2013 – showed broadband speeds of “exceptional quality”.
The high speed DSL services will only be available in areas where Telkom has upgraded its network to Multi Services Access Nodes (MSANs) which can support the higher speeds.
Telkom said that its 20Mbps and 40Mbps DSL footprint will be expanded with continued network upgrades in areas where it makes sense.
Consumers and businesses looking to buy Telkom’s new products will need a VDSL modem which is backward compatible with ADSL to ensure optimal performance.
First 20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL prices emerge
Cybersmart is the first company to release prices for the new 20Mbps and 40Mbps DSL services.
These prices are very close to Telkom’s wholesale rate for access only, which gives a good indication of what consumers can expect from other ISPs.
The following wholesale prices (which excludes any mark-up and support costs) have been provided for the new VDSL products:
- 20Mbps access with 5GB of data – R479
- 40Mbps access with 5GB of data – R649
An installation charge of R424 will be charged where a Telkom technician is dispatched on a self-install provisioning incident.
