Ever wondered when was the first tweet about famous names that were later on everyone’s lips, such as a US senator named Barack Obama who was to be elected president?

It can be easy to lose sight of where it all started amid the retweeting of interesting news that fills the microblogging site.

But now it’s possible to track down the answers (Obama: first reference on November 18, 2006) thanks to the Indian-based search engine Who Tweeted it First. It finds the first time any keyword was tweeted.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, now often regarded as the world’s most powerful woman, was first referred to on Twitter on January 9, 2007, the site shows.

Who Tweeted it First was developed by Amit Agarwal of India and searches Twitter all the way back to its origins in 2006. Search results are returned with a link to the original tweet.
