Uber has informed users that rates for UberBlack cabs in Johannesburg were increased on 27 March 2015.
UberBlack is the ride sharing company’s premium option offering high-end sedans and SUVs.
While the base fare (R15) and minimum fare (R50) will remain the same, the per kilometer rate increases to R13 and the per-minute cost has gone up to R1.30 per minute.
Previously an UberBlack cost R1.10 per minute, and R11 per kilometer in Johannesburg.
“Since launching UberBlack in Johannesburg over one year ago, we’ve kept our rates the same,” Uber said in an e-mail to users.
Although it has had to increase UberBlack prices in Johannesburg, the rates for UberVan and the more affordable UberX remain unchanged.
UberBlack prices in Cape Town and Durban also remain unchanged for the moment.
