Listed ICT group Business Connexion has secured a five year IT Outsource deal with the Department of Water Affairs.
The value of the contract is R420 million excluding any projects and CPI, making it one of the largest IT Outsource deals at Business Connexion, the group said.
Business Connexion beat competitors and rival bidders, T-Systems and EOH.
The services that will be provided in this deal include:
- Desktop support;
- Server support for Microsoft, Linux, Solaris Unix;
- Security and patch management;
- Database management for Informix and Microsoft SQL;
- Storage and backup management; and
- Application Development and support services
“This deal is evidence that we are starting to reap the benefits of our overall business strategy to grow our business in the vertical space, in this case the Public Sector vertical,” said Benjamin Mophatlane, CEO.
Business Connexion has also officially launched its new Public Cloud services in South Africa. This launch comes two weeks after it launched similar services in Nigeria.
The group says it intends to offer these services to the market through a channel partner programme as a way of building an ecosystem all the way down the value chain (ISV, Telco’s, Banks, Distributors, OEM’s, emerging business etc).
Claiming a first of its kind in the country, the Cloud Services Brokerage (CSB) will enable partners to offer IT services which are focused on giving businesses, that have not had access to traditional on-premise basic IT services, the opportunity to leverage innovative cloud services.
Business Connexion said it will initially offer the following services: Hosted Infrastructure, and the following Software as a service, Business Email,Business instant messaging, and Business Portal.
