These are the best airports in South Africa – and the world
Airports Council International (ACI) has announced the winners of the 2016 Airport Service Quality Awards, showing which airports across the world come out tops in providing an excellent customer experience.
The results are based on 600,000 individual surveys in 41 languages in 84 countries, and measures passengers’ views of 34 key performance indicators, including airport access, check-in, security screening, restrooms, stores and restaurants.
The awards are presented to those airports whose customers have rated them the highest over the course of the year, and are split into three categories across all regions – airports with more than 2 million passengers, airports with fewer than 2 million passengers, and the most improved airports.
In Africa, Mauritius’ Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport was ranked as the best airport on the continent, followed by Cape Town International Airport in 2nd and Durban’s King Shaka International Airport in 3rd.
Bloemfontein’s Bram Fischer International Airport was ranked as the continent’s best airport (under 2 million passengers) and also claimed the title of the most improved on the continent.

Europe – Sochi International Airport, Russia
Middle East – Abu Dhabi International Airport, UAE
North America – Indianapolis International Airport, USA
Latin America – José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport, Ecuador
