UberEATS expanding to Centurion and Pretoria and other cities in SA

 ·15 Mar 2017

The UberEATS meal delivery service has been a great success in South Africa, said Uber.

Over 100,000 users downloaded the UberEATS app in the first two months, and there are now 700 restaurants using the app in South Africa.

The service launched in Johannesburg in September 2016 and in Cape Town in January 2017, and has improved the sales of some restaurants by 20%-50%.

According to Uber, the most popular meal ordered on UberEATS is a cheeseburger – with many customers also scheduling orders for breakfast and healthy lunches at work.

People also order drinks for dinner parties and sundowners using UberEATS, as users can order alcohol from certain restaurants.

The largest order placed using UberEATS so far was for R6,000 – ordered by a company for a corporate event.

Centurion and Pretoria

Uber said it will launch UberEATS in Pretoria and Centurion soon, and will expand its reach in Cape Town to Constantia, Wynberg, Tokai, and Plumstead.

The company plans to roll out the UberEATS service to all major South African cities by the end of 2018.
