New ‘Gourmet’ SPAR next door to ultra-luxury Zimbali Estate – Photos of what’s inside
BusinessTech visited the recently launched SPAR Gourmet in Zimbali and was impressed by the store’s high-end look and feel.
SPAR Gourmet, located next door to the high-end Zimbali Estate in KwaZulu-Natal, was launched at the end of 2025 and was the first SPAR of its kind in South Africa.
The store offers a luxury grocery experience, with a Vida e Caffè, premium bakery and butchery, dedicated wine section, and ready-made meals on offer.
Craft pizza cooked in-store, a flower kiosk, “restaurant-quality” frozen food, a fruit and vegetable section, and standard groceries are also available to shoppers.
SPAR previously said the launch of the SPAR Gourmet in Zimbali was a defining moment for the brand, as it showed “how powerful it can be when our retailers’ passion and entrepreneurial spirit come together”.
This was in reference to SPAR’s partnership with independent retailer Mark Anderson, which brought the store to life.
The company added that SPAR’s model has always relied on independent owners who operate under the brand, while using their own entrepreneurial insight and understanding of local communities.
SPAR said at the time that it planned to open more Gourmet stores going forward, with four new stores planned for 2026.
Inside SPAR Gourmet
SPAR Gourmet is located in the Zimbali Oasis shopping centre, right outside Zimbali Estate.
The centre also features a Tops at SPAR bottle store, a SPAR-branded pharmacy, padel courts, a coffee shop, and a gym.
“Zimbali Oasis was the perfect place to bring this vision to life and alongside our retailer, we’ve created a store that genuinely lifts the shopping experience for our consumer,” said SPAR at the launch.
